Workshop on News Production Innovation Strategies Using Multimodal AI
A hands-on workshop will take place at 9:30 a.m. on the 22nd at Google Startup Campus, focusing on innovative strategies for news production through multimodal AI technology. This event targets practical applications, sharing real-world cases and technical skills that can be implemented immediately in newsrooms.
The workshop is organized by Konkuk University's Digital Communication Research Center (DCRC), hosted by the NewsTech Initiative, the Digital Council of the Korea Newspaper Association, and the Korea Online Newspaper Association, with sponsorship from the Google News Initiative.

The event centers on the theme "Using Multi-Modal AI in Newsrooms and Cross-Platform Strategies: Alongside the Practice of Automating Notebook LM and MCP-Based Article Content." It consists of three main sessions:

Session Highlights
The first session features Lee Bong-moo, director of Twelve Labs, who will discuss how changes in consumer expectations and the media environment impact the publishing industry. Kim Hyun-ji, head of Dong-A Ilbo's Future Strategy Research Institute, will share practical cases where multimodal AI has been integrated into media and broadcasting. She will highlight shifts in news production workflows and suggest directions for AI implementation.
Ethics and Challenges in AI Use
The second session is a panel discussion led by Konkuk University professor Hwang Yong-seok, including media leaders such as Lee Bong-moo, Kim Hyun-ji, Woo Seung-ho from Seoul Economy, Lee Kwang-bin of Yonhap News Agency, and Ham Hyung-gun from YTN.
Panelists will engage in an in-depth conversation about experiences introducing AI technologies in newsrooms, focusing on ethical and copyright issues. Topics include content ownership when using generative AI, managing algorithm bias, and ensuring product reliability.
Practical Applications with Google AI Tools
The final session will cover hands-on techniques for managing and producing content using Googleβs Notebook LM and Gemini AI tools. Choi Young-joon from the Google News Initiative will demonstrate how to analyze, visualize, and automate content creation effectively.
Additionally, Ahn Jung-hyun, a reporter from Chosun Ilbo, will present methods for incorporating AI into securities article writing. His talk will cover data collection, analysis, and drawing insights to streamline journalism workflows.
