Intel Names Katouzian to Lead Client Computing as Ranade Becomes Permanent CTO

Intel appointed Alex Katouzian as executive vice president and general manager of its Client Computing and Physical AI Group, and confirmed Pushkar Ranade as chief technology officer on May 6. Both executives will report directly to CEO Lip-Bu Tan.

Katouzian joins from Qualcomm, where he led mobile, compute, and extended reality operations as an executive vice president. Intel said he brings decades of experience building and scaling global compute platforms.

Focus on Edge AI and Physical Systems

Katouzian will oversee client computing operations and align Intel's strategy around physical AI systems, including robotics, autonomous machines, and AI-powered devices. The appointment reflects Intel's assessment of growing opportunities in edge AI, AI PCs, and physical AI as artificial intelligence reshapes computing infrastructure.

Tan said the timing reflects a shift in the market. "AI is creating unprecedented opportunities at the edge, driving a sea change in client computing and physical AI systems," he said in a statement.

Ranade Moves From Interim to Permanent Role

Ranade, who held the CTO position on an interim basis, now permanently leads Intel's technology strategy and special technology initiatives. His responsibilities include quantum computing, neuromorphic computing, photonics, and advanced materials research.

Ranade will also continue as chief of staff to Tan, maintaining alignment between Intel's business priorities and long-term technology roadmap.

For strategy and executive professionals, these appointments signal how major chipmakers are reorganizing around AI. Katouzian's move from Qualcomm-a major player in mobile and edge computing-suggests Intel sees competition intensifying in AI-optimized processors for devices beyond traditional servers.
