iZotope Ozone 12: Smarter AI with More Creative Control for Musicians

Artificial intelligence is now a common tool in music production, from generative apps to AI-assisted sample libraries and stem separation technology. iZotope, a US developer, was ahead of this trend by introducing machine learning-powered assistants in its Ozone and Neutron software back in 2017.

The assistant analyses your audio and suggests mixing or mastering presets tailored to the source material. In the latest Ozone 12 update, this feature gets a major upgrade, focusing on giving musicians more creative input rather than just automated decisions.

Master Assistant: Guidance with Flexibility

Ozone 12’s Master Assistant still suggests settings based on your audio, but now you can guide it with more options. The new interface lets you specify which modules to use, set LUFS targets, and pick from various genre presets. This lets you shape the assistant’s recommendations to better fit your style and goals.

iZotope emphasizes that the Master Assistant is there to “guide, not decide,” helping artists explore possibilities without losing creative control.

New Machine Learning Modules in Ozone 12

Beyond the upgraded assistant, Ozone 12 introduces three new modules powered by machine learning:

  • Stem EQ: Uses stem separation to EQ vocals, bass, drums, and instruments individually within a stereo audio file.
  • Bass Control: Intelligently refines and controls low-end frequencies for cleaner and tighter bass.
  • Unlimiter: Restores transients and dynamic range lost to over-compression, giving your tracks more life.

Additional Features and Pricing

Ozone 12 also adds a new IRC 5 mode to its Maximizer module, offering loudness and clarity without common issues like pumping or distortion.

The suite is available in three versions:

  • Elements: £55 / $55
  • Standard: £209 / $219
  • Advanced: £479 / $499

Each tier includes a different set of modules. You can compare features and pricing on iZotope’s official website.

Ozone 12 is also part of iZotope’s Music Production Suite, which bundles it with Neutron, Nectar, RX, the Catalyst Series effects, Native Instruments’ Guitar Rig, and more for £769 / $799.
