KDC Hires Data Center Development Leader as AI Demand Surges
Dallas-based KDC named Robert Child as executive vice president of data center development, marking an expansion of the firm's presence in a sector seeing rapid growth from artificial intelligence and cloud computing investments.
Child will oversee strategy, site development, capital alignment and completion of data center facilities. He brings 15 years of experience in the sector, including leadership roles at data center developer CyrusOne and managed work for Structure Tone's mission critical group in New York.
"Data centers have long been a part of KDC's DNA, but it's been more of a reactive business unit," Child said. "I'll be leading and growing that existing platform in KDC."
Existing Pipeline and Backing
KDC operates with financial support from Compatriot Capital, a subsidiary of Sammons Enterprises, and Cadillac Fairview, the global real estate arm of the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan, which acquired a 50% stake in the firm in 2021.
The company's data center pipeline exceeds 3 gigawatts of capacity, ranging from 10 to 15 megawatt sites to single facilities reaching 1 gigawatt. Child said KDC is pursuing enterprise built-to-suit projects for corporate users, which aligns with its track record serving Fortune 500 clients.
Current projects are located in Texas, Georgia and North Carolina. KDC has previously worked with Digital Realty Trust on data center development.
