Kellogg Executive Education Programs Address AI Scaling Challenge

More than 2,500 business leaders enrolled in Kellogg's AI Strategies for Business Transformation program in the past year, making it the largest open-enrollment offering in the school's recent history. The surge reflects a shift: executives now view AI fluency as essential, not optional.

The programs tackle a concrete problem. Most organizations have invested billions in AI but remain stuck in pilot projects. Few have achieved the scale needed for meaningful business impact.

Teaching Business Value, Not Technology

Mohan Sawhney, McCormick Foundation Chair of Technology at Kellogg, frames the challenge plainly: "My goal is not to teach the 'what' of AI. It's to teach the 'so what' and the 'now what.'"

Sawhney describes his approach as teaching a language rather than technology. The focus is converting AI capabilities into business use cases mapped across the enterprise value chain.

He developed the flagship program in 2019, then reimagined it after generative AI emerged. When ChatGPT launched in late 2022, Sawhney and colleagues built a live-virtual program focused on generative AI within months. But the field moved faster than curriculum could follow.

"The problem was no longer about generative AI but about getting real business value from AI at scale," Sawhney said.

A Portfolio Approach

Kellogg now offers six open-enrollment AI programs, each targeting specific leadership needs:

  • AI Strategies for Business Transformation - An eight-week program helping executives identify and implement AI use cases across the enterprise.
  • AI at Scale - Launched February 2025, this program addresses the scaling problem directly, focusing on organizational capabilities and governance structures needed to move beyond pilots.
  • AI-Driven Product Strategy - Targets product leaders applying AI across the product lifecycle.
  • AI Marketing Leadership - Launching summer 2026 for CMOs and senior marketing leaders.
  • Leading with AI - Equips leaders to apply data science and analytics to strategic challenges.
  • Mastering Sales: The Digital and AI Toolkit for Success - Relaunched February 2026 with refreshed content and hands-on AI applications for sales leaders.

Kellogg plans to expand its AI offerings throughout 2026 and beyond.

Custom Programs and Business Problems

Open-enrollment programs serve as an entry point. Beyond that, Kellogg offers custom programs where teams bring their own business problems and work with faculty to design solutions tailored to their organization.

Shashi Kumar Singh, Enterprise Architect with AWS, completed AI Strategies for Business Transformation. "I really valued the balance between highlighting opportunities like productivity gains and new hybrid roles, and acknowledging challenges such as equity and responsible deployment," Singh said. "It gave me clarity on what the future of work with AI might look like and how I can prepare for it."

For executives navigating AI adoption, these programs provide a structured path from awareness to implementation. The focus remains practical: moving from understanding what AI does to building the capabilities required to deliver measurable business value.
