Lexicon Honors Workforce with Industrial Certifications
Lexicon recently recognized 39 of its employees for earning industrial certifications through its ongoing training program, Lexicon University. The event took place at a luncheon in downtown Little Rock’s Marriott Hotel, celebrating skilled workers advancing their careers in construction and steel.
Little Rock Mayor Frank Scott Jr. spoke to the graduates, emphasizing the value of skilled work. “If someone has a job, especially a skilled job, they can have a career,” he said. “You now represent a great, historic story. And that’s because of each of you.”
Established in 2022, Lexicon University focuses on professional development and certification in welding and industrial maintenance. The program partners with Arkansas Northeastern College in Blytheville to provide hands-on training, ensuring workers gain practical skills.
Arkansas Secretary of Commerce Hugh McDonald addressed the graduates, highlighting the career resilience their certifications offer. “AI is coming for the coders, the analysts,” McDonald said. “You chose wisely.” This underscores the importance of skilled trades in an evolving job market.
Lexicon CEO Patrick Schueck took a moment to address a serious issue in the construction industry: mental health. He shared the painful news of an employee’s recent suicide and urged workers to support one another. “The number-one cause of death for construction workers is suicide,” Schueck said. “You have a right and responsibility to talk about it. There are people in our company who will listen 24/7. Call somebody.”
Schueck promised increased efforts to raise awareness about mental health resources available through company insurance. “It’s just not a campaign,” he said. “We speak about it just about every day. The single most important thing is for people to realize there are resources available. They’ve already paid for it.”
Looking ahead, Lexicon plans to expand the university program. “We’re pushing very hard in the coming years to offer segments from leadership to safety to millwrighting and ironworking,” Schueck said. The company aims to collaborate with state and local governments to equip workers for future challenges.
