LinkedIn CEO shifts focus to Microsoft's AI development
Ryan Roslansky is stepping down as LinkedIn's chief executive after six years to lead artificial intelligence development across Microsoft Office. Daniel Shapero, the platform's chief operating officer, will replace him.
Roslansky took the LinkedIn role in 2020 and oversaw steady growth in the company's advertising business and international expansion. Over the past year, he has increasingly concentrated on AI, even publishing a book on how the technology will affect the workforce.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella asked Roslansky last year to lead both LinkedIn and Office with a focus on AI's role in how people work. Roslansky said the opportunity to apply AI across those products is "only getting bigger."
What changes for LinkedIn
Roslansky will move to Microsoft's Office AI development group, where he'll expand Office Tools and add more AI capabilities to Office applications.
Shapero has worked at LinkedIn since 2008 and has led sales, marketing, and product across major parts of the business. Roslansky said Shapero "knows our members, our customers, and carries the mission in a way that's genuinely rare."
Shapero will report to Roslansky in his new role. He said he will focus on creating more economic opportunity for LinkedIn members and help professionals align their careers with new AI tools and processes.
The leadership change is unlikely to shift LinkedIn's direction significantly. Shapero's 18-year tenure suggests he will continue the company's current strategy and its work in Generative AI and LLM development.
The transition reflects how Microsoft and its subsidiaries are organizing around AI as a priority across product lines.
