Government Approves ‘AI Factory’ to Boost Lithuania’s AI Capabilities
Lithuania is moving forward with plans to establish an artificial intelligence (AI) competence and technology centre, referred to as an “AI factory.” This initiative aims to strengthen the country’s AI infrastructure and promote innovation in both the public and private sectors.
The government, through the Economy and Innovation Ministry, gave the green light to this project on Wednesday. The AI factory will be a central hub for AI development, supporting the adoption of AI solutions across various industries.
Investment and Job Creation
The project carries a budget of 100 million euros. It is expected to generate up to 500 highly skilled jobs by early 2027, providing a significant boost to the local workforce. The government anticipates that the long-term benefits for the state will far exceed the initial investment.
Funding for the project will come from multiple sources:
- About 50% from the European Commission
- Up to 50 million euros from the Lithuanian government
- Additional contributions from private sector investors
Strategic Importance for Lithuania
Economy Minister Lukas Savickas highlighted the strategic nature of the AI factory. According to him, this centre will accelerate AI adoption in business and public services while creating hundreds of high value-added jobs.
The AI factory is expected to play a key role in developing Lithuania’s innovation ecosystem and enhancing its international competitiveness in technology and AI.
Government officials and stakeholders involved in technology and economic development should follow this project closely, as it represents a major step toward integrating AI into public administration and industry.
