Luzerne County Hosts Public Presentation on AI Pilot Program
Luzerne County will hold a public presentation on July 30 at 5 p.m. to discuss its proposed artificial intelligence (AI) pilot program. The event takes place at the Operations Building located at 1199 Wyoming Ave. in Wyoming. The goal is to provide residents with clear information about how generative AI will be integrated into county operations and to answer any questions they might have.
Focus on Transparency and Ethical Use
County Manager Romilda Crocamo will open the session by emphasizing the county’s commitment to ethical considerations, data privacy, and security as AI technologies are introduced. She stated, “This public presentation is about transparency — giving our community a chance to learn about our plans, ask questions, and see the safeguards we are putting in place to protect privacy, data security, and ethical standards.”
What to Expect from the Presentation
The session will cover the basics of AI, including its capabilities and limitations. Attendees will learn about the structure of the pilot program and the built-in guardrails designed to ensure responsible use. Chief AI Officer and First Assistant Solicitor Vito DeLuca, who is leading the county’s AI adoption efforts, will explain the approach in detail.
- Educating the workforce on ethical AI use
- Clarifying what AI can and cannot do
- Ensuring human judgment remains central
- Empowering employees to responsibly leverage AI and automation
- Improving the efficiency and effectiveness of government operations
DeLuca highlighted the importance of balancing AI capabilities with human oversight, aiming to equip county staff with the knowledge and tools needed for practical and responsible AI application.
