Meta launches Louisiana AI workforce academy with guaranteed job offers
Meta selected Baton Rouge as one of four pilot sites for a new workforce training program designed to supply skilled workers for its data center expansion across the country. The company will invest $115 million across the four locations, with the others in Columbus, Ohio, Houston, and Indianapolis.
Participants in the program receive free training, housing, daily stipends, and guaranteed job offers from Meta contractors. The fast-track courses run four to five weeks and focus on high-demand trades.
What skills Meta needs
Meta is staffing its $27 billion AI data center project underway in Richland Parish, Louisiana. The company needs fiber technicians, welders, plumbers, electricians, and other skilled trade workers to build and operate the facility.
The Richland Parish Chamber of Commerce is among the partners helping Meta identify and train candidates.
State backing the effort
Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry said the state is building the workforce needed to compete in AI infrastructure development. He cited partnerships with Louisiana Works and the Louisiana Community and Technical College System.
Meta President Dina Powell McCormick framed the initiative as part of a broader pattern of infrastructure development. "Skilled workers electrified rural America one pole at a time," she said in a statement. "Now a new generation will pour the foundations and lay the fiber that secures American strength in this new age."
