Microsoft Bing Launches Free AI-Powered Video Creator

Microsoft Bing has introduced a new feature called Bing Video Creator, which allows users to generate videos from text prompts using OpenAI’s Sora model. This marks the first time Sora’s video generation capabilities are available for free, as OpenAI previously restricted access to paying customers only.

The feature is currently accessible through the Bing app on mobile devices, but not yet on desktop. Users logged into a Microsoft account can create up to 10 video clips at no cost. After that, each additional video costs 100 Microsoft Rewards points, which can be earned through activities like searching with Bing or shopping at the Microsoft Store.

How Bing Video Creator Works

  • Videos are generated from simple text prompts leveraging OpenAI’s Sora AI model.
  • Users can queue up to three video generations simultaneously.
  • Each video is fixed at 5 seconds in length with a vertical 9:16 aspect ratio, optimized for social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram.
  • Currently, video generation can take hours even with the “fast” mode, which is intended to speed up the process to a few minutes.

Microsoft plans to add support for horizontal 9:16 videos soon, expanding the format options available to creators.

Understanding Microsoft Rewards Integration

After the initial 10 free videos, generating more content requires Microsoft Rewards points. These points are earned through everyday actions such as web searches and purchases:

  • 5 points per PC search on Bing (up to 150 points daily)
  • Points also accumulate via purchases in the Microsoft Store

This integration encourages continued engagement with Microsoft’s ecosystem while providing a cost-effective way to create AI-generated video content.

Who Can Benefit from Bing Video Creator?

This tool offers a straightforward way for professionals in IT, development, marketing, and content creation to experiment with AI video generation without upfront costs. It’s especially useful for quick, short-form video content suited for social media channels.
