Microsoft introduced a suite of agent-based AI tools aimed at modernising retail workflows across merchandising, marketing, fulfilment, and in-store execution. Think of it as an operating layer that reduces manual steps, speeds up decisions, and connects online and offline operations.

Copilot Checkout lets customers complete purchases directly within Microsoft Copilot-no redirects. It's live in the U.S. with support from PayPal, Shopify, and Stripe. Early participants include Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie, Ashley Furniture, and selected Etsy sellers.

This moves a chunk of high-intent customer service from human chat to AI, while keeping brand context intact. Ops teams should map intents (fit, materials, compatibility, delivery windows) and connect to policy, inventory, and fulfilment rules to keep answers accurate.
Cleaner catalogues, better search
A new catalogue enrichment agent extracts and structures product details from images. It automates onboarding, categorisation, and error correction-key levers for search quality and recommendations.
The upside: fewer SKU intake bottlenecks, more consistent attributes, and better findability. The practical step is to standardise your attribute schema and set guardrails for confidence thresholds and human review on edge cases.
Store operations agent for frontline speed
Microsoft's store operations agent lets staff check inventory, review policies, and manage workflows in natural language. It blends internal sales data with external signals like weather and local events to suggest staffing and task priorities.
That means fewer calls to the back office and faster task routing. Use it to inform labor planning, queue management, stock pulls, and promo execution-especially on high-variance days.
