Milestone Systems launches AI tools designed for security operations, not general use

Milestone Systems announced three new AI and analytics tools built specifically for security teams: AI Search, Video Summarization, and Video Anonymization. The company designed them to reduce manual work in video review, incident documentation, and regulatory compliance.

Security operations face a distinct problem. Unlike other industries experimenting with generative AI and LLM tools, security teams need systems that don't hallucinate, produce inconsistent results, or fail at critical moments. A missed alarm or false positive can have serious consequences.

The regulatory environment adds another layer of complexity. The EU AI Act, GDPR, and evolving data privacy standards force organizations to balance their need to analyze video data with compliance requirements.

How the three tools work

AI Search lets operators describe what they're looking for in plain language instead of using complex filters or manually scrubbing footage. An investigator searching for a specific vehicle in a traffic accident can surface relevant clips across dozens of cameras in seconds.

Milestone will offer an on-premises version through BriefCam for organizations that need air-gapped environments with no internet connection. AI Search launches by the end of 2026.

Video Summarization automatically generates text descriptions of video footage. Operators send clips with custom prompts and receive structured summaries. Integrated with XProtect's rules engine, it can run automatically on alerts, on a schedule, or on demand. The result: faster incident review and standardized documentation instead of manual paperwork.

Video Anonymization automatically redacts faces and license plates before video is exported or shared. Organizations can send evidence to law enforcement or share footage across departments without manual redaction work. The tool uses anonymization technology from brighter AI and will be available soon in Arcules and XProtect.

Why vertical-specific AI matters here

Milestone fine-tuned its vision language models on video data specific to security use cases, not broad, general-purpose AI. The company has built models for U.S. and EU traffic scenarios as examples.

The company also sourced and manages its training data with compliance built in from the start. Milestone's video library is fully anonymized and traceable, and the company uses brighter AI's anonymization technology in its own data pipeline.

Andrew Burnett, Milestone's chief technology officer, said the company built these tools on trust. "Trust that the data is compliant, trust that the AI is accurate, and trust that these tools will genuinely make operators' jobs easier."

For operations teams, these tools address a specific gap: AI for operations that reduces manual effort without introducing new risks.
