UK lawmakers push AI stress tests for financial services
UK regulators are being urged to stop "wait and see" and start pressure-testing AI in finance. A cross-party committee says the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and Bank of England (BoE) should run AI-specific stress tests to prepare firms for shocks triggered by automated systems.
The committee also wants the FCA to publish clear guidance by the end of 2026 on how consumer protection rules apply to AI and how much senior managers are expected to understand about the systems they oversee. "Based on the evidence I've seen, I do not feel confident that our financial system is prepared if there was a major AI-related incident and that is worrying," said committee chair Meg Hillier.
