Ferdia Co-planner: One-click fleet planning that cuts dead mileage and admin
Operations lives in the numbers: time on task, miles between jobs, and margin. Ferdia's new Co-planner feature brings automated, optimised scheduling to coach operators so you can plan faster, run tighter, and protect profitability - with a single click.
What Co-planner does
Co-planner builds a fully optimised trip plan across your fleet based on your objectives. Set what matters most - fewer vehicles on the road, reduced dead mileage, lower admin effort - and it sequences trips for each vehicle to hit those targets.
- Automated vehicle assignment across the day's work
- Objective-driven optimisation (vehicles, mileage, admin)
- Full control and visibility over the generated plan
"Co-planner gets to the heart of Ferdia's dual mission to simplify operations and help businesses become more profitable," said Håkon Sæther, CEO of Ferdia. "Similar systems in logistics and freight have cut the time to schedule a day's work by up to 90% - that's what we're bringing to coach operations."
Connect sales and planning - and stop the back-and-forth
Traditionally, sales quotes first, planning validates later. Co-planner flips that delay into a circular workflow. Live capacity and availability feed into quoting so sales can price accurately, reduce rework, and respond faster.
- Availability surfaced at quote stage
- Fewer holds and fewer changes after acceptance
- More accurate pricing aligned to actual capacity
From concept to everyday tool
Ferdia first showed Co-planner at Eurobus 2024 as a proof-of-concept that auto-assigned vehicles to trips. Based on operator feedback, the team is adding advanced trip requirements, cost factors, and the ability to choose specific optimisation goals - while keeping the workflow simple.
Variables can be as detailed as you need. Think vehicle spec (VIP/executive/standard), onboard features (USB ports, Wi-Fi), emissions class, or even livery requirements. Details flow from the client request at booking into the plan.
Early results
Operators across Scandinavia and the UK are already using Co-planner. Planning time has dropped from hours to minutes while maintaining full control and transparency. Additional capabilities rolled out in August, with more on the way.
Compliance and workforce planning (next up)
Near-term updates include automated driver planning for both EU and domestic hours, recognition of driver absence and vacations, and integration with the Ferdia Co-Driver app to monitor driving hours. If trips overrun, the system will flag next-day risks so you can stay on the right side of the rules.
Built for today, ready for tomorrow
Ferdia is working with clients to extend Co-planner and deliver deeper integrations across the operator tech stack. The goal: a centralised platform with products and APIs that move data seamlessly, surface the right insights, and guide better decisions across the business.
How operations leaders can put this to work now
- Define your primary objective for each plan: vehicles, mileage, or admin time.
- Standardise trip requirement data in your intake forms so Co-planner can use it directly.
- Tag vehicle attributes (spec, features, emissions, livery) in your fleet records.
- Connect quoting with live availability to reduce rework and price accurately.
- Pilot with one depot or region, measure planning time saved and dead mileage reduction.
- Set compliance parameters early so driver planning fits your operating model.
