Ontario Tech launches EDGE to fast-track executive learning in AI

Ontario Tech University has launched EDGE, a private training company that delivers executive education and skills development for organizations managing technological change. The program addresses a specific gap: boards and executives need timely, specialized training on artificial intelligence and its implications for strategy, governance and operations.

EDGE operates two streams. Executive learning targets senior decision-makers with courses on AI strategy and governance. A separate rapid skills alignment program helps organizations address labor shortages by designing targeted training for workers moving into in-demand roles.

Executive programs focus on AI governance

The AI Accelerator Intensive, developed with MIT Media Lab experts, teaches executives how AI reshapes organizational strategy and operations. A companion program covers AI governance, compliance and due diligence.

Jennifer Alsop, President and CEO of EDGE, said the timing is deliberate. "Artificial intelligence is no longer a future consideration. It is a present-day competitive imperative," she said. "While AI adoption in Canada is growing, it still lags behind many global competitors."

Programs are delivered on-site, online and in hybrid formats to match immediate workforce needs.

Rapid skills training targets critical sectors

EDGE works directly with employers to design training for roles in energy, healthcare and mining - sectors critical to Canada's economy. The initiative addresses skills gaps that traditional education pathways don't serve.

Ontario Tech brings a human-centered approach to technology development, with ethics built into design. The university's applied research on responsible AI implementation informs EDGE programming, helping executives understand governance and accountability alongside adoption strategy.
