OpenAI Launches 'Creative Lab Seoul' to Support Local Artists

OpenAI has introduced 'Creative Lab Seoul', a new initiative to support Korean artists, designers, and creators. This program is part of OpenAI's global effort to provide resources and opportunities to creative professionals worldwide, with Seoul being the first city in Korea to host such a program.

Over the course of one month, 21 artists will work on projects using OpenAI's latest AI video generation tool, Sora, along with ChatGPT ImageGen. Participants receive early and free access to these tools, practical learning support, and chances to connect with a global creative community. They will also have opportunities to showcase their completed works.

Fostering Creativity Through AI Tools

Jake Wilkins, OpenAI's head of communications for Asia-Pacific, emphasized the philosophy behind the Creative Lab: “When artists lead and tools follow, a completely new form of creation is born.” The program aims to help Korean creators broaden their creative reach and influence beyond local boundaries.

Seoul currently has the highest number of Sora users globally, making it a natural choice for expanding OpenAI’s creative programs. Besides the Creative Lab, OpenAI plans to engage the Seoul creative scene through exhibitions and collaborative projects.

Upcoming Collaborations and Exhibitions

OpenAI is partnering with the Seoul Design Foundation to take part in Seoul Light DDP 2025 Autumn, the world’s largest festival of non-standard architectural 3D media facades. Artists Choi Se-hun and Timo Helgert, supported by OpenAI, will create AI-driven media artworks using Sora for this event.

This effort highlights how AI tools like Sora are becoming integral in producing innovative media art. For creatives interested in exploring AI-powered video and image generation, programs like Creative Lab Seoul offer valuable hands-on experience and exposure.
