Launching at A2IM Indie Week
The platform debuted during A2IM Indie Week in New York City, a key gathering for independent musicians. A launch event on June 11 featured Wyclef Jean, OpenWav Co-Founder Jaeson Ma, and music executive Madeline Nelson. They presented how the platform supports artists through an ad-free, AI-powered system that prioritizes ownership and direct fan relationships.
Giving Artists Control and Revenue
Jaeson Ma, CEO and Co-Founder, emphasized the current industry challenges where many artists struggle to earn from streaming and social media favors clout over connection. OpenWav enables artists to monetize superfans directly, own their audience data, and build sustainable careers without intermediaries or gatekeepers.
The platform’s economic model helps independent artists generate meaningful income despite the low payouts common in streaming and ticketing. Early tests show artists earning five figures weekly—surpassing typical annual streaming revenues.
Features Designed for Creators
OpenWav combines music streaming with social commerce, ticketing, and fan communities. Artists can craft campaigns for new releases and back catalogs, design premium merchandise using their artwork or AI-generated images, and bundle physical and digital products. Merchandise drops ship worldwide without upfront costs or warehousing hassles. OpenWav also manages customer service fully within the app.
Wyclef Jean on the Platform’s Potential
Wyclef Jean shared his excitement about OpenWav’s approach: “The current system prioritizes promotion and algorithms over artistry. Building Fandom from Day One
Eric Tu, OpenWav Co-Founder and COO, said the platform is more than just a tool—it’s a movement to help rising stars cultivate superfans early in their careers. Artists receive clear guidance and tutorials on monetizing and engaging fans right after downloading the app.
Later this summer, OpenWav will launch a discovery competition for emerging artists to submit original songs and get feedback from industry professionals. Judging will focus on creativity, originality, and musical quality.
