Oracle Adds AI Tools to Help Utilities Cut Costs and Improve Reliability
Oracle announced new AI features across its Utilities Industry Suite designed to help electric, gas, and water utilities reduce operating costs, prevent asset failures, and improve customer billing accuracy. The company said the tools connect customer, grid, and asset operations through a single data platform to speed decision-making.
Utilities face competing pressures: aging infrastructure requires massive capital investment while regulators and customers demand affordable rates. The new Oracle offerings target three operational pain points that directly affect the bottom line.
Billing and Customer Data
Oracle's enhanced Customer Platform uses AI-powered anomaly detection to catch billing exceptions and meter reading errors faster. The system processes meter data in memory, which speeds up accuracy checks and reduces manual work. Faster resolution of billing disputes improves customer satisfaction and lowers operational costs.
A separate tool called the Affordability Solution helps utilities address unpaid bills by offering personalized assistance programs and flexible payment options. The system identifies which customers qualify for which programs and presents options in a single interface.
Asset Failure Prevention
Oracle added generative AI to its asset management system to surface patterns in equipment performance. The Asset 360 Portal now summarizes recent maintenance history, recurring problems, and early warning signals for potential failures-particularly for water pipelines prone to breaks. Operators can see recommended next steps to address issues before they cause outages.
Data Access and Workforce Response
A new data intelligence tool gives operations teams faster access to metrics like payment plan performance, field exceptions, and customer engagement trends. The system includes pre-built visualizations designed for quick adoption without requiring data science expertise.
Oracle also enhanced its network management system to help utilities respond to extreme weather. The tools now support decentralized workforce coordination and rapid restoration workflows alongside demand response and distributed energy resource management.
Scale and Track Record
Oracle said its utilities customers have saved more than $4.3 billion on energy bills since 2009. Six of the top 10 largest U.S. utilities use Oracle's grid management system. Water utilities using Oracle solutions serve 500 million customers across 60+ countries and deliver 2.8 billion bills annually.
