Oxford University Press Launches AI-Powered Legal Research Tool
Oxford Law Pro is the latest AI-driven product from Oxford University Press (OUP), created to support legal researchers and professionals in achieving more efficient research outcomes. This new tool integrates over 9,000 journal articles and 600 books, providing a focused and accurate legal research experience.
Hosted on the Oxford Academic platform, Oxford Law Pro offers clear and reliable explanations of legal principles and their development. It also features expert commentary on complex, regulated topics through its Expert Essentials series. Users can explore authoritative analysis across key legal areas such as arbitration, international law, commercial law, competition law, technology regulation, and intellectual property law.
Streamlined Access to Authoritative Legal Content
The launch builds on OUP’s move to host law books on Oxford Academic since 2024, aiming to simplify research by uniting books and journals in one place. The AI assistant helps users quickly find relevant content by delivering concise summaries, links to original sources, and relevancy scores. Importantly, it accesses only OUP’s vetted legal materials, ensuring researchers rely on trusted sources.
Developed in partnership with Silverchair, the AI assistant is designed to complement expert human judgment rather than replace it. It identifies the most pertinent content to speed up scholarship discovery without compromising on quality or editorial standards.
Commitment to Responsible AI in Legal Research
John Campbell, Product Strategy Director for OUP’s Academic division, emphasizes the importance of trust and integrity in deploying AI tools. The assistant reflects OUP’s dedication to producing peer-reviewed, reliable content and supports a sustainable future for AI in research.
This launch follows OUP’s earlier introduction of AI features, including a pilot search tool on the Oxford English Dictionary website and an AI assistant on Oxford Academic. These initiatives share the goal of making research more straightforward and efficient.
