Pakistan establishes AI Education Authority to expand virtual schools
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's chief minister approved the creation of an AI Education Authority on April 16, marking the province's formal move into AI-based learning systems. The authority will oversee virtual schools and AI teaching tools across government institutions.
The province plans to launch Pakistan's first public sector virtual school and an AI Teacher program. Forty-six government schools already run online learning systems on a pilot basis, with plans to convert 175 additional schools into virtual schools.
What the AI Teacher system covers
The AI Teacher currently supports five subjects: English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. A central digital teaching studio delivers both live interactive classes and recorded lectures.
Officials said the system reduces teacher workload while enabling personalized learning for individual students. The approach aims to address a practical problem: reaching students in remote and underdeveloped areas where teacher shortages are acute.
Timeline and scope
Authorities have been directed to complete preparations to operationalize the AI Education Authority. The initiative sits within a broader provincial development program focused on education reform.
