PCS Introduces Cortex AI Engine to Automate Freight Operations
PCS Software is launching Cortex, an AI engine integrated directly into its transportation management system (TMS) to help fleet operators automate manual tasks and speed up decision-making. This new technology targets improving operational efficiency by optimizing dispatch, routing, and scheduling processes.
AI Built Into Your Workflow
Cortex is embedded natively within the PCS TMS, enhancing workflows across dispatch, planning, safety, driver management, and maintenance. Unlike external AI tools, Cortex works seamlessly within the existing system, providing actionable insights without disrupting daily operations.
“We focused on AI that improves margins, automates busywork, and gives fleets a competitive edge,” said PCS CEO Mark Hill. The AI engine learns from historical, operational, and financial data to present the best scenarios for managing fleets more effectively.
Helping Fleets Do More With Less
As trucking companies face rising costs and a soft freight market, Cortex offers a way to make smarter decisions with fewer resources. By analyzing data and learning user behaviors, the AI automates routine tasks and highlights opportunities to increase profitability.
Danielle Villegas, PCS chief product officer, explains that Cortex goes beyond reporting data—it understands it and integrates into everyday workflows to reduce manual intervention.
Enhanced Communication and Timely Insights
Cortex also aims to improve communication channels, including email, text, voice, and electronic data interchange (EDI) or application programming interfaces (API). This ensures that the right information reaches the right people quickly, supporting faster, informed decisions.
Making Advanced Technology Accessible
PCS is prioritizing midsize carriers, which often lack access to advanced technology due to cost barriers. “This wave of technology can be a great equalizer,” said Hill, noting that AI advances like Cortex are becoming affordable and practical for mid-market and smaller transportation businesses.
Tim Reilly, vice president at Voyager Express, a PCS beta customer, shared his experience: “With Cortex, PCS is giving us enterprise-level tech that used to only be for the giants — and making it work for fleets like ours.”
Availability
The first Cortex modules focusing on intelligent dispatch, routing, and scheduling will be available this fall. PCS will officially release Cortex on September 25 at the PCS Customer Summit in Houston.
