Ping An Accelerates AI Push with New Tech Leadership

New addition to drive transformation and integration

Ping An Insurance (Group) Company of China Ltd has appointed Ray Wang as its chief technology officer and general manager of Ping An Technology. This strategic move is set to strengthen Ping An’s artificial intelligence capabilities and speed up the integration of proprietary large language models with open-source big data platforms. It supports the company’s broader plan to build five digital systems across business, operations, management, marketing, and services, all aligned with its “integrated finance + health and senior care” strategy.

Wang’s Experience in Financial Technology

Ray Wang holds a master’s degree in computer science from the National University of Singapore. His career includes senior technical roles at Google and Bloomberg. At Baidu, Wang was chief architect and led the development of Baidu Wallet and digital financial services. Later, he served as vice president and CTO at Ant Group, overseeing technology and research for Ant Fortune and Ant Insurance. His work has focused on launching AI-driven financial products and managing digital transformation teams within the financial sector.

Ongoing Investment in Technology and Talent

Ping An continues to prioritize technology investment as a core business strategy. The company has built a technology foundation named “953,” comprising nine major databases, five laboratories, and three technology subsidiaries. By the end of 2024, Ping An’s technology workforce included over 21,000 developers and more than 3,000 scientists. As of March 2025, the company had won 45 AI competition awards and filed upwards of 55,000 patent applications, reflecting its strong commitment to research and development.

Digital Healthcare Platform Relaunch

Ping An Healthcare and Technology Company Limited has relaunched its health services platform under the “Ping An Good Doctor” brand. The updated platform offers annual healthcare services focused on three key areas: proactive family doctor support, direct access to medical specialists, and coordinated care throughout the patient journey. Serving 400 million registered users, it currently has 20 million subscribers to its family doctor service and partners with 2,100 corporate clients, providing healthcare services to over 5 million employees.

Global Expansion of Disaster Risk Platform

In May 2025, Ping An Property & Casualty Insurance Company of China broadened its disaster risk intelligence platform, EagleX, to a global audience. EagleX combines artificial intelligence, satellite data, and analytics to help insurers, governments, and businesses assess risk, get early warnings, and verify claims. Originally developed for the Chinese market, EagleX now supports risk management across multiple countries, processing over 2 trillion data points related to natural disasters like typhoons, earthquakes, and heavy rainfall.

  • Provides disaster risk mapping
  • Offers real-time alerts
  • Delivers satellite-based loss assessment

These features assist insurers with underwriting and pricing, while also supporting businesses and authorities in preventive actions.
