Rhino Launches DealShield to Speed Up Insurance Assessments for Realtors
Rhino, an AI-native insurance brokerage, announced DealShield, a software platform that gives realtors instant insurance quotes and risk assessments for individual properties. The tool analyzes location data, hazard risk, inspection reports, and photos to produce an "Insurability Report" showing expected insurance placements, timelines, and premiums.
The timing addresses a concrete problem. California realtors reported that one in six deals fell out of escrow last year because buyers couldn't secure insurance - more than double the rate from 2023.
Closing the Insurance Gap
California's property insurance market has tightened as wildfire losses mount. Many property owners end up on the FAIR plan, the state's insurer of last resort, which typically costs more and offers less coverage.
DealShield uses multimodal AI to analyze properties at a detailed level. In early testing, the platform helped more than two-thirds of homeowners in high-risk areas find coverage outside the FAIR plan, even in cases where other brokers had assessed the properties as uninsurable.
For agents, the tool reduces time spent researching carriers and calling around for quotes. Heather Gowdy, a real estate agent with Twin Oaks Real Estate in Walnut Creek, California, said the platform "brings clarity and real solutions" to a problem that has become central to deals in her market.
How It Works
The platform surfaces mitigation measures tailored to each address. This allows agents to distinguish between well-mitigated properties and those facing steeper insurance costs, information that should come earlier in listing preparation and buyer conversations.
