Sage deepens AWS ties to push AI for smaller firms
Sage has expanded its partnership with Amazon Web Services to build AI tools for small and mid-sized businesses. The agreement covers product development, distribution through AWS Marketplace, technology integration, and migration from desktop finance software to cloud systems.
The companies outlined four main areas of work: joint sales and product efforts, new developer solutions built on Amazon Bedrock AgentCore, tighter integration between Sage products and AWS services, and moving users from older desktop products to cloud systems.
Marketplace route for partners
Sage Developer Solutions will launch on Amazon Bedrock AgentCore, with tools offered through AWS Marketplace. Partners will build and deploy AI agents for finance tasks including accounts payable, cash flow management, payroll processing, and compliance reporting.
The marketplace approach gives customers a single channel to find and install add-on products within their existing software. For independent software vendors and developers, it reduces integration work when building sector-specific applications.
Global spending on AI is expected to rise 31.9% annually between 2025 and 2029 as businesses move from testing to embedding AI in core operations, according to industry research cited by Sage. Cost and complexity remain significant barriers for smaller companies.
Moving customers to the cloud
Many smaller companies still rely on older on-premise accounting systems that are harder to update and less suited to AI tools. Sage and AWS aim to move these customers to cloud-based products running on AWS infrastructure.
Cloud migration lets Sage standardize delivery, update products more quickly, and make new AI features available without requiring customers to manage local infrastructure. AWS gains more software workloads and marketplace activity tied to finance applications for small and medium-sized businesses.
The migration work combines Sage's finance software expertise with AWS infrastructure and migration tools. The goal is to make the transition less disruptive for customers that want live financial data and software-based automation without replacing systems all at once.
Steve Hare, Chief Executive Officer of Sage, said the partnership lowers barriers to AI adoption for smaller companies. "AI presents a massive opportunity for small and mid-sized businesses. But they need AI they can trust, with the right support, tools and infrastructure to adopt it," Hare said.
Developer platform focus
The relationship gives Sage a stronger platform message for its partner ecosystem. Rather than asking developers to work across multiple deployment options, Sage steers activity toward AWS infrastructure and Bedrock AgentCore, with AWS Marketplace as the commercial route to customers.
This approach appeals to consulting and implementation partners that want to package repeatable finance tools for industries with specific reporting and process needs. Wipfli, a partner, said the collaboration helps bring AI into day-to-day finance work by embedding AI directly into financial workflows that businesses rely on.
