Sandra Bullock: Hollywood Must Embrace AI Constructively, Not Resist It
Sandra Bullock said the film industry should work with artificial intelligence rather than against it, acknowledging the technology's presence while warning against misuse. The actress made the comments at the CNBC Changemakers Summit in response to fan-made AI-generated trailers for her upcoming film Practical Magic 2.
"We have to observe it. We have to understand it. We have to lean into it. We have to use it in a really constructive and creative way, make it our friend," Bullock said.
She tempered her openness with caution. "We have to be incredibly cautious and aware of it because there are people who will use it for evil and not good," she added.
Industry Tensions Over Unauthorized Use
Bullock's stance contrasts with concerns raised by other actors and creators. Scarlett Johansson, Ben Stiller, Mark Ruffalo, and Cate Blanchett have backed campaigns like "Stealing Isn't Innovation" to prevent unauthorized use of artists' work in AI training.
The debate centers on whether AI systems should be trained on copyrighted creative work without permission or compensation.
About Practical Magic 2
Practical Magic 2 reunites Bullock with Nicole Kidman for a sequel to the 1998 romantic fantasy film. Director Susanne Bier helms the project, which debuts theatrically on September 18.
The film's trailer premiered at CinemaCon 2026 in Los Angeles, held April 13-16. The original film followed two witch sisters navigating family curses and social prejudice in a small town.
