SAP Concur Rolls Out AI Agents and Card Network Partnerships for Travel and Expense Work
SAP Concur has released a suite of AI-driven tools designed to reduce manual work in corporate travel and expense management. The updates include new automation agents, Microsoft 365 integration, partnerships with American Express and Visa, and enhancements to the TripIt travel app.
Two new Joule AI agents handle expense reports
The Expense Automation Agent creates expense reports and populates fields based on transaction details and user history, leaving employees to review rather than build from scratch. The Expense Pre-Submit Audit Agent flags receipt discrepancies early, aiming to reduce rejections and speed reimbursement.
Both agents are in SAP's Early Adopter Care program, with general availability expected later this year. The Expense Automation Agent will be available as part of Joule Premium for Travel and Expense.
SAP Concur will also support receipt submission via text message, removing the need for manual data entry. This capability is also in the Early Adopter Care program.
Natural language policy rules cut administrative setup time
New AI-based rule creation tools let administrators build policy rules using natural language or by uploading company policy documents directly, rather than configuring rules through technical interfaces.
Travel policy administrators can upload a document, and rules will be created automatically. This capability enters the Early Adopter Care program in Q2 2026. Expense administrators can create audit rules using natural language starting in Q2 2026, with document-based rule creation planned for later in the year.
Microsoft 365 and Sales Cloud integrations reduce workflow switching
SAP Concur is extending Joule deeper into Microsoft 365, allowing employees to create expense reports, track status, ask policy questions, upload receipts and book travel without leaving Microsoft applications.
A new integration with SAP Sales Cloud lets salespeople book travel for client visits directly through Joule within the Sales Cloud interface. The system recognises visit details and presents personalised itinerary options. General availability is planned for Q2 2026.
American Express and Visa deepen card-to-expense integration
SAP Concur and American Express are enabling joint customers to create and manage American Express Virtual Cards within Concur Expense. Virtual cards generate unique numbers and security codes tied to an employer's Amex Corporate Card account for online payments and digital wallet use.
The capability is available now to select US-based American Express customers using Concur Expense, with broader availability in Q3 2026. Virtual cards can also be used as a payment method within Concur Travel.
SAP Concur has joined the Visa Commercial Integrated Partner program. The first milestone enables real-time notifications to automatically create expenses from Visa card transactions. This capability enters the Early Adopter Care program in Q3 2026.
Concur Travel and TripIt add guest bookings and risk alerts
Concur Travel now fully supports guest bookings with an improved reservation workflow. Guest profiles can be created without establishing new profiles for recurring visitors each time.
Complete, the co-developed solution from SAP Concur and American Express Global Business Travel, is adding AI-enabled travel support with handoff to a live travel counsellor and a dedicated home page for travel managers.
TripIt Pro has added image-to-plan capabilities powered by on-device processing. Travellers can turn photos or PDFs of tickets, reservations and receipts into organised plans without sending data off the device.
TripIt Pro has also expanded risk alerts. The app now monitors breaking news based on addresses entered with trip plans and sends proactive alerts about incidents that could affect lodging, car rental, rail and activities - not just flights.
Both TripIt Pro features are available now.
What this means for managers
These updates address a common pain point: employees spending hours on expense reports and travel bookings that could be handled faster. For managers overseeing travel and expense budgets, the AI agents and automation reduce approval cycles and provide better visibility into spending patterns.
The policy rule creation tools mean finance and compliance teams can enforce company rules without IT involvement. For those managing travel programmes, the card integrations and guest booking features simplify workflows that typically span multiple systems.
Understanding how these AI tools fit into management workflows can help you assess whether they solve real problems in your organisation or add complexity.
