Dutch AI Startup ScoutinScience Raises Nearly €1M to Boost Research Impact
ScoutinScience, a Netherlands-based AI platform focused on turning scientific research into practical applications, has secured close to €1 million in growth funding. The platform uses artificial intelligence to analyze scientific publications and pinpoint opportunities for technology transfer. Its clients include universities, corporations, and investors looking to maximize the value of research outputs.
The funding round featured continued support from 819 Capital alongside contributions from angel investors with expertise in AI, academic research, and corporate R&D.
How ScoutinScience Supports Innovation
Since its launch in 2020, ScoutinScience has worked with technology transfer offices, government bodies, and corporations across Europe. Its AI-powered tools help users scout for emerging technologies, analyze innovation ecosystems, and develop strategic approaches to research valorisation.
The platform offers an intuitive dashboard that enables users to search and explore scientific work by topic, institution, country, and other criteria. Advanced filters let users narrow down results by technology readiness levels (TRL), alignment with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), patent origins, and contributions from specific research groups or regions. This streamlines the process of discovering relevant research that can be translated into products, services, or policy.
The European Commission has twice recognized ScoutinScience’s approach as a model for effective research valorisation. Currently, the company serves clients in Germany, Austria, Ireland, and the Netherlands, while forging partnerships across more than a dozen countries.
ScoutinScience was founded after identifying that as much as 80% of university research remains untapped. Starting with a pilot at a Dutch university, it has expanded internationally to support universities, government agencies, and investors. Its team combines expertise in science, innovation, and technology transfer with AI and data analytics to uncover opportunities that increase both innovation output and societal benefits.
Plans for Growth and Development
The fresh capital will fuel ScoutinScience’s expansion into new European markets. It will also support the advancement of proprietary measurement systems and enhancements to services such as technology scouting, matchmaking between researchers and industry, and strategic impact reporting.
Gilles Meijer, CEO of ScoutinScience, noted, “This funding round reflects growing demand from universities and public research institutions to unlock the value of their scientific output using strategic, data-driven methods. We’re eager to broaden our reach and deepen the insights we provide on real-world impact.”
For research professionals and technology transfer offices seeking to improve how scientific discoveries translate into innovation, ScoutinScience offers a data-centric approach to identify and act on opportunities efficiently.
