Sejong University Opens AI Center for Sensor Companies

Sejong University inaugurated the On-Sensor AI Optimization Support Center on Tuesday, creating a shared platform where sensor manufacturers can access AI optimization services without building their own infrastructure.

The center launches from a technology agreement with N2M, a company focused on on-sensor AI optimization. It operates within the university's Daeyang AI Center and runs on AutoOpt Nexus, a platform developed by Sejong's Intelligent Sensor Platform Research Center.

What the Center Does

AutoOpt Nexus automates optimization across the entire chain from sensors to AI models. Companies can improve performance without replacing hardware, which matters for product teams working with cost constraints.

The platform targets applications in smart manufacturing, smart cities, robotics and environmental monitoring. Services include sensor AI optimization consulting, on-sensor AI tuning, performance enhancement and customized optimization.

Small and midsized sensor companies can access these services without restrictions, addressing a specific gap: many firms lack the internal AI expertise to develop sensor-based products competitively.

Why This Matters for Product Development

Sensor companies typically face a choice between hiring specialized AI teams or staying behind competitors. This center removes that barrier by offering expertise on demand.

The platform automates what would otherwise require months of manual work-connecting sensors, training recognition models, and optimizing decision logic. Product teams can focus on application design rather than infrastructure.

N2M CEO Kim Hyeong-jin said the services help smaller companies "close the technology gap" and "enable high-value product development." A Sejong University official added that the center will support companies in "automating the full cycle of sensor connection, recognition and decision-making."

The opening ceremony included representatives from Korea's Evaluation Institute of Industrial Technology and Semiconductor Industry Association, signaling government and industry backing for the initiative.

For product teams evaluating how to incorporate AI into sensor-based products, the center offers a practical alternative to building capabilities in-house. Learn more about AI for Product Development and AI Agents & Automation to understand how these technologies apply to your work.
