Interactive Map of Serbia's AI Ecosystem

November 21, 2025

The Office for IT and eGovernment, in cooperation with UNDP, introduced an interactive map that centralizes the key players behind artificial intelligence in Serbia-along with their projects and initiatives. It gives developers, researchers, and product teams a clear view of who is doing what, where, and with which technologies.

Unified data from multiple sources

The map brings together information from several credible datasets and connects them in one place:

  • Domestic AI startups (Digital Serbia Initiative)
  • AI projects funded by the Science Fund
  • AI projects supported by the Innovation Fund
  • Organizations and innovation actors mapped by the Serbian Chamber of Commerce

Everything is tagged and cross-referenced by organization type, project type, technologies, industries, and geographic areas. You can search, filter, and analyze from different angles-or jump into one of the 20 predefined views.

Why this matters for Serbia's development

Dr. Mihailo Jovanović, Director of the Office for IT and eGovernment, noted that the map builds on national efforts such as the Artificial Intelligence Development Strategy for 2025-2030 and the Ethical Guidelines for trustworthy AI. He emphasized that better coordination across state institutions, academia, startups, and the private sector creates a stronger base for faster technological and social progress.

Open dataset and community input

This is a pilot version. The team plans continuous updates and welcomes feedback from practitioners. According to Slobodan Marković, Digital Technology Advisor at UNDP, the map started as an internal planning tool for public-sector AI work, but the dataset is now openly available so researchers, companies, and organizations can use it, test it, and suggest improvements.

Practical ways IT and development teams can use it

  • Find potential partners, suppliers, or research groups by tech stack, industry, or region.
  • Scan active and completed projects to spot gaps, reuse learnings, or avoid duplication.
  • Benchmark capabilities across sectors to inform product roadmaps and staffing.
  • Identify funding links and success patterns to de-risk proposals.
  • Use predefined views for quick discovery, then refine with filters for deeper analysis.
  • Leverage the open dataset for custom analytics, dashboards, and internal knowledge bases.
