Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Introduces AI-Powered Government Performance System
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, announced the launch of a new federal government system that uses artificial intelligence to measure and improve performance. The Proactive Government Performance System is designed to support decision-making, enhance planning, and increase the ability to anticipate future challenges.
Sheikh Mohammed emphasized the government's commitment to continuous improvement, stating, "Our commitment to continuous improvement is unwavering. We strive for excellence and aspire for perfection, fully aware that continuous development is essential to progress." This new system marks a significant step in strengthening strategic oversight and using AI to enhance government operations.
Capabilities of the AI System
The system processes over 150 million data points monthly and delivers more than 50,000 proactive insights annually. It aims to save more than 250,000 work hours each year while targeting a 60% average improvement in government performance.
By tracking and managing targets, performing in-depth data analysis, and generating executive summaries, the AI tool supports real-time decision-making. Its flexible reporting uses predictive data to forecast future performance, making planning more accurate and responsive.
Technology Integration in Government
Last week, Sheikh Mohammed highlighted the use of AI to manage government resources, aiming to make services faster and more accessible. Teams across ministries have been directed to adopt innovative, flexible strategies incorporating AI, aligned with the 'We the UAE 2031' vision.
This planning cycle involves 38 federal groups, including directors of strategy, future planning, and finance, collaborating to integrate AI solutions throughout government functions.
UAE's AI Journey
- In 2017, the UAE appointed the world's first Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence.
- In 2019, the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy was launched to position the UAE as a leading AI nation by 2031.
- The Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence was established as the first graduate-level AI-focused research university.
- Abu Dhabi's Digital Strategy 2025-2027 aims to become the world's first fully AI-powered government by 2027.
Streamlining Government Efficiency
Efforts to improve government efficiency continue with the Zero Government Bureaucracy programme. Sheikh Mohammed reported that the first phase reduced service times by over 70%. The next phase will focus on cutting unnecessary procedures, streamlining digital applications to achieve zero digital bureaucracy, and ensuring 24-hour uptime for digital systems.
These initiatives demonstrate a clear focus on simplifying public services and improving responsiveness through technology.
