Snap survey shows modest AI adoption among US and UK teens
Snap published research on how teenagers use AI, surveying nearly 9,000 young people aged 13-18 across the US, Canada, UK, France, and India. The findings reveal lower-than-expected adoption rates for creative AI use among the platform's core audience.
Only 31% of 13-15 year-olds said they use AI for "trying to be creative in new ways." That figure drops to 23% for 16-18 year-olds. The majority in both groups are not using AI for creative purposes.
Younger teens show more optimism about AI's future impact. Fifty-five percent of 13-15 year-olds believe AI will have a mostly positive effect on their generation, compared to 37% of 16-18 year-olds.
Content creation remains strong
Despite questions about whether teens have moved entirely to short-form video, the research found sustained interest in traditional media. Both age groups still watch TV shows and films regularly, and roughly half attend movies, concerts, or live events.
Content creation itself is widespread. Seventy-four percent of younger teens and 61% of older teens make their own content weekly. Three-quarters of younger teens and 68% of older teens share that content with others.
For creatives looking to work with younger audiences, understanding these patterns matters. Generative Art and AI for Social Media skills can help creators build content strategies that resonate with how teens actually consume and produce media.
