Grand Serendib Colombo Launch Sets a New AI Benchmark for Sri Lanka's Hospitality Sector
Sri Lanka's first AI-enabled tourism hotel project, Grand Serendib Colombo, was officially launched under the patronage of Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism Vijitha Herath. Joining the Minister were legendary cricketer Sanath Jayasuriya and Dilip K. Herath, representing ABEC Premier - the developer behind the project.
Minister Vijitha Herath noted, "The commencement of this project marks a major investment milestone for Sri Lanka, reflecting the growing investor confidence in our tourism sector. By integrating artificial intelligence into hospitality, this initiative will take Sri Lanka's smart tourism industry to the next level."
Held at Shangri-La Colombo on Friday (10), the launch also marked the 20th anniversary of ABEC Group. The ceremony drew MP Dr. Harsha de Silva, senior academics from local and foreign universities, diplomats, and industry professionals.

Practical steps you can act on now
- Audit your stack: Map PMS, CRS, CRM, POS, channel manager, and event tech. List gaps where AI can add speed or accuracy.
- Pick one pilot: Examples - predictive maintenance for HVAC, AI concierge for FAQs, or dynamic upsell in pre-arrival emails.
- Train your team: Build frontline prompts, SOPs, and QA checks. Consider role-based learning paths for ops, sales, and revenue management. See AI courses by job.
- Set policy and metrics: Define data consent, human-in-the-loop checkpoints, and KPIs such as RevPAR uplift, service response time, energy cost per occupied room, and NPS.
- Vendor shortlist: Prioritize open APIs, security standards, and implementation support. Run short proofs of concept before full rollout.
