trivago Expands Leadership Team with Three C-Level Appointments

March 12, 2026 - Düsseldorf - 12:20 PM

trivago N.V. (NASDAQ: TRVG) is adding three C-level roles to accelerate its next chapter: Chief Technology Officer, Chief Intelligence Officer, and Chief Commercial Officer. The move follows two and a half years of focused execution on product, brand, and profitable growth. In 2025, revenue grew 19% with €15.8m in adjusted EBITDA, and Q4 finished up 27% year over year.

Brand efficiency is compounding. AI-driven campaigns now run in 30 countries and branded traffic revenue is growing faster than overall revenue. On product, large language models and new content/search capabilities have improved every user touchpoint, contributing to a 37% lift in conversion over two years.

Momentum by the numbers

  • 2025 revenue +19%; adjusted EBITDA €15.8m; Q4 +27% YoY
  • AI-powered brand campaigns active in 30 countries
  • Conversion rate up 37% in two years
  • Branded traffic revenue growth outpacing overall revenue growth

Why these roles, and why now

AI has changed expectations across travel search, product velocity, and partner performance. Dedicated leaders for technology, intelligence, and commercial strategy create clear ownership, faster decisions, and tight alignment where execution actually happens.

The second driver is strategic focus. The easy wins are behind the company, and the next set of moves demand sharper trade-offs at the top. Promoting leaders who helped build trivago brings context, judgment, and speed that are hard to hire from the outside.

"Every leader joining our executive team has been central to what trivago has become. They haven't just been here. They've been builders. They've helped shape our products, our systems, and our culture, and they've earned this step through their track record. Each has proven they can deliver when it matters most. We are proud to be building this next chapter of the leadership team from within." - Johannes Thomas, CEO

Execution focus and decision rights

  • CTO: End-to-end technology ownership - architecture, platform stability, engineering standards, and AI enablement.
  • Chief Intelligence Officer: Company-wide data strategy, analytics, and AI/ML, with direct accountability for Hotel Search data science and analytics.
  • CCO: Enterprise partnerships, hotel relationships, commercial model expansion, and ecosystem growth.
  • Cross-functional councils (Tech and Data) set standards, tooling, and governance for speed with accountability.

Alexander Volkmann, Chief Intelligence Officer

Alex brings a PhD in Mathematics, early-stage experience at Rocket Internet, and founder chops from Markovian, an ad-tech company built on transparency and mathematical rigor. His approach is first principles, measured impact, and systems that improve over time.

Across eight-plus years at trivago, Alex helped evolve marketplace intelligence, led the move from a first-price to a second-price auction, built the transaction-based marketplace model, refined item ranking and search, and scaled advertiser analytics. He's operated end to end - from marketing data to running the marketplace.

As Chief Intelligence Officer, Alex will own data strategy, analytics, and AI/ML across trivago, with direct responsibility for Hotel Search data science and analytics. He will drive AI transformation and data governance via the Data Council. Alex is currently on parental leave and will step into the expanded role in April.

Sherin Hegazy, Chief Commercial Officer

Sherin knows the travel ecosystem from distribution to hotels, with prior roles as Regional Director at Travelport and Head of Account Management at TripAdvisor. That range gives her a unique view of where trivago can create value across partners and channels.

Inside trivago, she has led global business development, strategic projects, and most recently served as Global Head of Partnerships. She has deepened enterprise relationships through joint planning, performance optimization, and senior alignment, while building systems that help independent and mid-size hotels compete effectively.

As CCO, she will bring partnerships into the center of the company's strategic agenda - a deliberate choice given the leverage of enterprise collaboration and the growth potential of the transaction-based model.

Ioannis Papadopoulos, Chief Technology Officer

Ioannis returns to trivago with over a decade of company experience and a rare vantage point: he previously served as both CTO and CEO of homelike, a long-term rental platform. He understands how to scale products, teams, and business operations under real constraints.

At trivago, he has led marketing teams, built internal tooling, architected auction-based marketing infrastructure, driven cross-company initiatives, and developed critical partnership technologies. Few have operated across so many domains - and fewer bring CEO-level perspective back into a CTO role.

Since October, the technology organization has sharpened focus and standards, and embedded AI in its build process. Ioannis now owns the full technology agenda - architecture, stability, engineering excellence, and AI enablement - with direct accountability for Hotel Search Tech and standard-setting through the Tech Council.

What comes next

trivago enters 2026 with momentum and a clear path: compound brand equity, keep improving product and member experience, and drive personalization, conversion, and retention. AI is not a side stream - it's integrated into how the company builds, markets, and serves travelers.

Commercially, the priorities are deepening the partner ecosystem and expanding the transaction-based model. With a 600-person team aiming for the impact of a company ten times its size, the expanded leadership group is built to move fast with discipline - for users and shareholders.
