Unity launches AI assistant suite for game developers

Unity has released a suite of AI tools in open beta for developers using Unity 6 or above. The toolset aims to speed up game development by helping creators understand their projects and use the platform's features more effectively.

The core feature is the Agentic Assistant, a smart helper that operates within game projects. It provides guidance on using Unity's tools and understanding existing work.

Beyond the assistant, the suite includes a Plan mode for designing implementation steps and a Skills feature that offers expert guidance in areas like UI creation and scene setup. Developers can also instantly roll back changes and generate placeholder assets-materials, sounds, cubemaps, and 2D or 3D assets.

Integration with external tools

Developers can connect preferred AI tools within the Unity editor through an AI gateway, or link to external coding tools and large language models using Unity's Model Context Protocol server. This approach lets teams use their existing AI infrastructure alongside Unity's native features.

Pricing and access

Unity Pro, Enterprise, and Industry subscribers receive these features automatically with credits upon installing the Assistant package. Unity Personal Edition users can start a free 14-day trial that provides 1,000 credits. After the trial, a $10 monthly subscription grants 1,000 AI credits, with additional bundles available for purchase.

Broader strategy shift

The AI assistant launch reflects Unity's focus on higher-growth products. Last year, the company introduced Vector, an AI-powered ad network that accounted for 56% of total Grow Solutions revenue in its most recent financial results. Unity expects Vector to deliver strong quarterly growth above guidance.

To concentrate resources on these expanding segments, Unity closed its IronSource advertising and user acquisition network and divested its mobile publisher Supersonic.
