UP Government Launches AI Pragya Training for Joint Secretaries

The Uttar Pradesh government has initiated the AI Pragya training program aimed at equipping one million citizens, including government employees, with essential skills in artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, data analytics, and cybersecurity. The program recently began with a dedicated session for joint secretaries at the Department of Secretariat Administration.

Formally launched on May 9, the initiative is organized by the UP Centre for E-Governance Society under the IT and Electronics Department. The rollout event was attended by Amit Kumar Ghosh, Principal Secretary of the Secretariat Administration Department.

Training Focus and Key Topics

Neha Jain, Special Secretary of the IT and Electronics Department, explained that the officers received a one-day intensive training covering:

  • Practical applications of AI in daily life and various industries
  • Introduction to ChatGPT and how to craft effective prompts
  • Using AI tools for language translation
  • Understanding AI co-pilots and their uses
  • Digital safety and information security principles
  • Maintaining confidentiality and data integrity
  • Cybercrime awareness, including phishing, cyberstalking, and harassment
  • Methods to prevent cybercrime
  • Introduction to malware types
  • Review of key cybercrime laws

Expected Benefits for Government Work

Amit Kumar Ghosh highlighted the practical impact of the training, stating that government tasks can be completed more efficiently by leveraging AI tools. He stressed the importance of complying with government confidentiality and cybersecurity norms while using such technologies.

Ghosh also pointed out that AI is expected to create new job opportunities in the next five years. This aligns with the state’s economic goal of reaching a one trillion-dollar economy.
