Uttar Pradesh to teach AI to 200,000 school students
The Uttar Pradesh Skill Development Mission will introduce artificial intelligence training to students in grades 9-12 across 1,200 schools. The program, called Project Praveen, aims to reach more than 200,000 students starting in the 2026-27 academic year.
Students will complete a four-hour course called "AI For All" alongside their regular studies. The training covers data analysis, problem-solving, and digital literacy skills that apply to specific job sectors.
Tailored modules for job roles
The mission has developed specialized AI modules for five job categories: IT customer care executives, self-employed tailors, healthcare workers, digital assistants, and soap makers. Each module runs four hours and teaches practical applications of AI in that field.
Pulkit Khare, director of the Skill Development Mission, said the training will help students "work smarter and more efficiently in their respective fields." He added that the course prepares students for workplace competition by building essential technical skills.
Teacher training underway
All instructors must complete the "AI For All" course before the 2026-27 school year begins. Trainers who teach the five specialized job roles will also take an advanced subject-specific course.
Project Praveen is a 210-hour free skill development program that runs alongside regular schooling. It covers sectors including IT, beauty, healthcare, and electronics.
For educators interested in AI for Education or AI coding courses, these developments signal growing demand for AI literacy in vocational training.
