Valeo Opens AI Development Hub in Cairo, Expanding Egypt's Software Role

Valeo, the automotive technology company, opened an AI development center in Cairo on April 22, marking its largest investment in artificial intelligence outside its global headquarters. The hub will employ 35 engineers initially, with plans to expand to over 100 specialists.

The center joins Valeo's existing operations in Egypt, which already account for nearly 50% of the company's global software output. Valeo Egypt, established in 2005, has grown into the largest software R&D center in North Africa, with 3,000 engineers delivering roughly four million research and development hours annually.

Focus Areas and Current AI Adoption

The new center will concentrate on two objectives: accelerating AI integration across Valeo's functions to boost productivity, and developing tools for next-generation automotive software.

Valeo has already deployed AI coding assistance tools to software engineers worldwide. As of the first quarter of 2026, 35% of all validated software code at the company is produced using AI.

Valeo Egypt's engineers develop core software for vehicle technologies including automated parking systems, digital cockpits, powertrain systems for electric vehicles, and smart lighting. The work draws on AI, algorithm development, deep learning, data science, and cloud computing.

Government Support and Regional Strategy

Egypt's Minister of Communications and Information Technology Raafat Hendy opened the facility alongside Valeo CEO Christophe PΓ©rillat and Ahmed Elzaher, CEO of the Information Technology Industry Development Agency.

Hendy said the center reinforces Egypt's position as a global R&D hub. Elzaher noted that Valeo's 20-year presence demonstrates Egypt's ability to sustain complex operations and that the expansion reflects the country's technical talent depth.

Valeo employs approximately 100,000 people globally across 149 production plants and 59 R&D centers. The company reported 2025 revenues of approximately 20.9 billion euros.
