Versant Media Acquires StockStory to Integrate AI Into Financial News

Versant Media Group, the Comcast spinoff that owns CNBC, has acquired StockStory, an AI-powered investment research platform, to accelerate how it delivers financial analysis to investors. The company did not disclose deal terms.

StockStory's platform analyzes public companies using machine learning and AI to generate stock recommendations and market insights. Versant said the technology will let CNBC produce analysis faster and with more data backing, helping investors react to market moves as they happen.

StockStory founder and CEO Adam Hejl will join Versant and report to Deep Bagchee, the company's Chief Product and Technology Officer for News. This structure puts product development directly alongside newsroom operations.

Part of Broader Acquisition Push

The StockStory deal fits Versant's acquisition strategy since going public on Nasdaq earlier this year. The company has also bought Free TV Networks, which distributes over-the-air digital broadcasts, and INDY Cinema Group, a technology platform for movie theaters.

Versant is also considering acquiring Vox Media's podcast network, according to reporting from The New York Times in March. These moves suggest the company is building a distribution network that combines scale with data-driven content capabilities across different platforms.

What This Means for Product Teams

For product development professionals, this acquisition illustrates how media companies are embedding AI into core workflows. Rather than treating AI as a separate tool, Versant is integrating it into how news gets researched, analyzed, and published.

The reporting structure-with StockStory's CEO answering to the Chief Product and Technology Officer-signals that product and editorial decisions will need to move in sync. Product teams building for news organizations will likely face similar pressures to work closer with content teams.
