Vertafore Targets Manual Work With AI Agents Across Insurance Distribution

Vertafore introduced a suite of AI agents embedded in its agency management and workflow systems at its user conference in Las Vegas this week, aiming to compress time-intensive tasks like reconciliation and submissions from hours to minutes.

The company's new Velocity AI platform serves as the foundation for task-specific agents deployed directly into existing workflows rather than as standalone tools. CEO Amy Zupon framed the challenge as "insurance distribution drag"-the manual, fragmented processes that slow agencies, carriers, and managing general agents.

What the Agents Do

Vertafore released several agents targeting high-friction work:

  • A Reconciliation Agent automates matching carrier statements to policies, condensing a process that typically takes hours.
  • An Email Agent interprets inbound messages and initiates workflows within AMS360, reducing manual triage and data entry.
  • A Submission Processing Agent structures unstructured submissions and prioritizes them for underwriting review.
  • ReferenceConnect AI enables natural language queries with cited responses, reducing time spent locating information.
  • A Benefit Plan Agent extracts and organizes data from source documents, reducing plan setup time.
  • A Portal Launcher Agent within Surefyre converts static applications into digital submission experiences.

Vertafore also introduced a certificates capability within InsurLink to reduce administrative burden from high-volume certificate issuance.

The Architecture Approach

Chief Product Officer James Thom said the platform incorporates orchestration, human-in-the-loop controls, and large language model routing. The design allows AI to operate within existing systems rather than requiring replacement.

Balaji Devarasetty, Vertafore's CTO, said the company mapped nearly 150 use cases and agents, then prioritized those delivering immediate productivity gains. The goal is enabling staff to shift time away from administrative work toward higher-value activities.

Vertafore built the platform to be model-agnostic, allowing it to route requests to different AI models depending on the use case and switch providers without disrupting customers. This reflects both the rapid evolution of AI technology and the need to maintain performance without wholesale system replacement.

Why This Matters for Agencies

Agencies face mounting pressure to handle greater volume without proportional staff increases. Insurance distribution remains defined by manual workflows and fragmented systems. Unlike banking or payments, where many processes are real-time, insurance requires workers to switch between systems and move data manually.

Devarasetty said the focus is on reducing friction for producers, servicers, and accounting staff. "If those hours can turn into minutes, that is value for the agency," he said.

Vertafore indicates additional agents are already in development, suggesting ongoing expansion of the platform's capabilities. Adoption remains in early stages.
