Wipro to overhaul HanesBrands' IT operations in AI-led transformation

Bengaluru and North Carolina: HanesBrands has signed a multi-year agreement with Wipro to rebuild its global IT operations with an AI-driven managed services model. The deal anchors HanesBrands' "IT 2.0" initiative to streamline operations, strengthen cybersecurity, improve end-user experience, and lower run costs.

"The engagement with Wipro is a key step in our journey to transform our IT operations and deliver better experiences for our customers and partners," said Scott Pleiman, Chief Strategy, Transformation, Analytics, and Technology Officer at HanesBrands.

Why this matters for operations

  • Shift from traditional managed services to an AI-managed model that prioritizes prevention over resolution.
  • Proactive monitoring, automated remediation, and standardized workflows reduce ticket volume and cycle times.
  • Integrated cybersecurity practices raise resilience while keeping compliance in check.
  • Cost transparency and run-rate reduction through automation, consolidation, and fewer handoffs.
  • Better experience for employees, suppliers, and partners through consistent service levels and faster response.

The platform backbone: WINGS and Wipro Intelligence

Wipro will deploy its WINGS operations AI platform alongside the broader Wipro Intelligence suite to manage and optimize HanesBrands' IT environment. The focus: simplify operations, tighten data regulatory compliance, and deliver measurable cost reductions across IT.

"This new engagement will allow us to bring the Wipro Intelligence suite to HanesBrands, increasing their operational agility and resilience through AI-powered platforms, solutions, and transformative offerings," said Shiva Jayaraman, SVP and Sector Head - Consumer Business, Americas 1, Wipro Limited.

Expected near-term impact areas

  • Service desk: AI-driven triage, knowledge surfacing, and auto-resolution for common incidents.
  • Infrastructure: self-healing actions for capacity, patching, and configuration drift.
  • Observability: unified telemetry with anomaly detection to catch issues before outages.
  • Security operations: faster threat detection, fewer false positives, tighter endpoint hygiene.
  • FinOps: usage visibility and policy-driven cost controls across cloud and on-prem assets.
  • Compliance: automated evidence collection and reporting against data and access standards.

Metrics operations leaders should track

  • Mean time to detect and recover (MTTD/MTTR).
  • Incident volume per 1,000 users and auto-remediation rate.
  • Change success rate and change-induced incident rate.
  • Patch compliance and endpoint coverage against SLA.
  • Security signal-to-noise ratio and time to contain.
  • Run cost per user/workload and month-over-month variance.
  • Service experience: CSAT/NPS for employees and key suppliers.
  • Audit findings count and time to close.

Beyond IT: a broader innovation lane

This is more than a standard vendor arrangement. HanesBrands gains access to the Wipro Innovation Network-labs, AI-native companies, Wipro Ventures, academia, and tech partners-to co-create solutions for future needs. That opens a path to use AI across operations while staying close to compliance and cost targets.

If you're planning a similar move

  • Baseline your current state: asset inventory, service catalog, SLAs/SLOs, incident/change data, and run costs.
  • Define AI-ready processes: standardize workflows, add telemetry, and close data-access gaps for model training.
  • Set governance early: security, privacy, and compliance guardrails; RACI across IT, security, finance, and vendors.
  • Pilot before scale: pick one service tower, set tight success criteria, and publish outcomes to drive adoption.
  • Measure relentlessly: instrument dashboards for reliability, experience, and unit cost-then iterate monthly.
