Wipro Creates AI Business Unit, Appoints Bandaru as CEO
Wipro has launched a dedicated artificial intelligence business unit and named Nagendra Bandaru as its chief executive, signaling a strategic shift toward AI-led growth within the IT services firm.
Bandaru, who has spent nearly three decades at Wipro, previously led the Technology Services Global Business Lines. He will report directly to Wipro CEO and Managing Director Srini Pallia.
What the New Unit Will Do
The unit will focus on building agentic AI solutions and develop new AI-led business offerings. Wipro describes this as operating in a "services as software" environment-a shift from traditional IT service delivery.
The new unit will consolidate existing platform assets, including industry-specific solutions for lending, aviation cargo, and healthcare. Wipro plans to accelerate development of enterprise-grade AI solutions through targeted investments and partnerships.
Pallia said the move "sharpens Wipro's ability to deliver tangible value to clients and drive stronger business outcomes."
Leadership Changes
Kanwar Singh, a former Accenture executive with over three decades of industry experience, will succeed Bandaru as President and Managing Partner of Technology Services. Singh will also join Wipro's executive leadership team.
Suzanne Dann, CEO of Wipro's Americas-2 Strategic Market Unit, has resigned to pursue opportunities outside the company. The Americas-2 unit generates roughly a third of Wipro's revenue and covers Canada and major U.S. industry verticals.
Strategic Context
The move reflects how IT services firms are responding to enterprise adoption of AI and automation. Creating a dedicated unit with separate governance allows Wipro to operate with different economics and speed compared to its traditional services business.
For executives overseeing AI strategy and transformation, Wipro's restructuring illustrates how large service providers are reorganizing to compete in an AI-first market.
