AI agent for underwriters

Application Versus External Data Agent

A short list of confirmed differences between the application and outside records, with evidence

Application Versus External Data Agent: what goes in, what the agent does and what you get

What it does

Applicants sometimes understate details such as building age, driving record or revenue, and nobody cross-checks them. This agent compares the statements in an application to outside sources such as property records, motor records and company filings. It flags differences above a set tolerance. Before raising a question, it tries a second source to see whether the first record is just wrong or out of date. Only confirmed differences go forward as questions for the broker. The underwriter approves any question and any change to terms. Edge case: a building shows a 1965 build date but a 2015 renovation, so the agent flags the age as unclear instead of mismatched.

How it works

Follow the arrows from top to bottom. The orange dashed arrow is the loop: when a check fails, the agent goes back and tries again.

How it decides

A difference is raised only when it exceeds the tolerance and a second source agrees or no second source disproves it.

  • Raise a difference only above the tolerance for that field
  • Require two sources before calling a statement false
  • Mark conflicting sources as unclear
  • Rank by effect on risk

Make it yours

Every agent is a starting point. You choose these settings for your own situation.

  • Tolerance by field (default: 10% for money, 5 years for building age)
  • Sources allowed
  • Fields to check
  • Ranking rules

What keeps you in control

It always asks you first

  • Underwriter approves every question to the broker and any change to terms

Hard limits

  • Never contacts the broker or applicant
  • Never changes a quote or terms

It stops when

  • Done: all differences are confirmed, cleared or marked unclear
  • Stop: the applicant cannot be matched to a record

An example run

What happensAn application said a shop's revenue was $1.2 million. Filings showed $1.9 million. A second source gave $1.8 million, so the difference was confirmed. The first check on building age failed because records were split by renovation, so the agent marked it unclear. The underwriter approved a question about revenue only.
