Commercial Advocacy Case Agent

Each trade barrier case is documented, matched to the applicable rules, followed up until resolved or closed, with every step approved

Commercial Advocacy Case Agent: what goes in, what the agent does and what you get

What it does

A firm reports that its goods are held at the border, that a license is refused or that a new local rule blocks its product. The commercial officer must find the facts, the rule involved and the right official, and then keep following up for months. This agent opens a case for each report and gathers facts from the firm: shipment details, dates, letters and the rule cited. It looks up the local regulation and any trade agreement commitments that apply, and checks whether the measure looks inconsistent with them. It drafts options for talks with local officials, such as a technical meeting, a letter or a joint approach with other embassies, and tracks responses. After each reply or deadline it rechecks the status and updates the plan. The officer approves each step. Edge case: the firm's facts conflict with the customs record, and the agent asks for documents before any approach.

How it works

Follow the arrows from top to bottom. The orange dashed arrow is the loop: when a check fails, the agent goes back and tries again.

How it decides

It chooses approach options by how clearly the measure conflicts with a commitment and how urgent the harm is, and escalates when no reply arrives by the set date.

  • Ask for documents before any official approach
  • Escalate when no reply arrives in 14 days
  • Prefer a technical meeting when the rule is unclear
  • Close a case only when the firm confirms or after 90 days of no activity with notice

Make it yours

Every agent is a starting point. You choose these settings for your own situation.

  • Reply deadline (default 14 days)
  • Case types handled
  • Escalation routes
  • Update frequency to the firm

What keeps you in control

It always asks you first

  • Each step toward local officials
  • Each update sent to the firm

Hard limits

  • Never contacts officials without approval
  • Does not promise outcomes to the firm
  • Keeps the firm's business data confidential

It stops when

  • Done: barrier lifted or case closed with the firm's agreement
  • Stop: the firm cannot document the case

An example run

What happensA furniture exporter reported that 14 containers worth $220,000 were held for a new label rule. The firm's dates did not match the customs record, so the check failed. The agent asked for the documents and found the rule took effect two weeks before. It drafted a technical meeting request citing a notice period commitment. The officer approved. No reply in 14 days, so the agent proposed a senior meeting.
