Contact Lens Prescription Renewal Agent

Every contact lens patient renews their exam before expiry and leaves with a supply that matches a final prescription

Contact Lens Prescription Renewal Agent: what goes in, what the agent does and what you get

What it does

Contact lens patients often wait until their supply runs out, then find their prescription has expired and buy online elsewhere. This agent works through upcoming expirations weekly. It lists patients whose prescription expires in the next 45 days, checks their last supply order and the date it should run out, and checks insurance for a contact lens exam and allowance. It drafts a reminder offering a fit check with the right visit type. Once the patient is seen, it reads the final prescription and builds an annual supply order with the allowance applied. Before sending the order, it checks that the prescription is finalized and the lens is in stock. If not, it holds and asks the doctor. Prescription verification requests from outside sellers go to the doctor for approval within the legal window. Edge case: a patient with a recent eye infection is not offered a reorder until seen.

How it works

Follow the arrows from top to bottom. The orange dashed arrow is the loop: when a check fails, the agent goes back and tries again.

How it decides

It ranks patients by days to expiry and supply run-out, and only builds an order from a prescription the doctor has finalized.

  • Patients with under 30 days of lenses left are contacted first
  • Recent infection or ulcer visits block reorders until seen
  • Orders use only finalized prescriptions
  • Outside seller verification requests are answered within the legal window

An example run

What happensOn 8 September, 62 prescriptions expired within 45 days. Patient Omar Hill had 2 weeks of lenses left, so he was contacted first and booked 15 September. After the fit check the doctor was still waiting on a trial lens, so the order check failed. The agent held the order and asked again on 18 September. The prescription was finalized, and Omar approved a $210 annual supply after his $150 allowance.
