AI agent for farmers

Crop Marketing Price Watch Agent

Sell each crop at a price that clears costs, with terms the farmer has approved.

Crop Marketing Price Watch Agent: what goes in, what the agent does and what you get

What it does

Most farmers sell when they need cash or when the price feels right, not when it clears their costs. This agent watches futures prices and local buyer bids each day and compares them with the farm's cost of production, storage cost and interest on stored grain. It flags when a target price is reached and when the gap between a local bid and the market is unusual. It compares buyers on delivered price, payment terms and pickup dates, and drafts a sale proposal with the numbers. It checks the proposal against the amount still unsold and the storage limit. The farmer approves any contract. Edge case: a high bid with a 60 day payment delay is ranked below a lower bid paid in 10 days when interest cost closes the gap.

How it works

Follow the arrows from top to bottom. The orange dashed arrow is the loop: when a check fails, the agent goes back and tries again.

How it decides

It ranks offers by net price after storage, interest and delivery, and recommends a sale only when the net price clears the target.

  • Recommend selling only when net price is at or above the target
  • Charge interest at the farm's borrowing rate on delayed payments
  • Never propose selling more than the unsold quantity
  • Prefer a buyer with pickup that fits storage limits

An example run

What happensThe farm's target for corn is $4.60 a bushel net. A local bid arrives at $4.72 with payment in 60 days. After interest of $0.09, the net is $4.63. A second buyer offers $4.66 paid in 10 days, net $4.65. The agent drafts a sale of 5,000 bushels to the second buyer. The farmer approves it.
