AI agent for farmers
Crop Rotation and Field Plan Agent
A field plan that follows rotation rules, meets contracts and improves margin
What it does
Each season the farmer decides what to plant in each field, balancing margins, rotation, disease risk, contracts and machinery. In the planning season, this agent reads field history, soil tests, disease and pest records, rotation rules, expected prices and input costs. It drafts a crop for each field ranked by expected margin. It rejects any option that breaks a rotation or disease rule, such as the same crop family two years running. Disease rules always override margin. It then checks the whole plan against contract commitments and machinery and labor capacity in planting windows. If the plan breaks a rule, it swaps crops between fields and redrafts. It summarizes margins and input needs by field. The farmer approves the plan. Edge case: a field with a club root history is kept out of brassicas for the set number of years.
How it works
Follow the arrows from top to bottom. The orange dashed arrow is the loop: when a check fails, the agent goes back and tries again.
Read the steps as a list
- Planning season
- Read field history, soil tests and records
- Remove crop options that break rotation or disease rules
- Draft crop for each field by expected margin
- Does the plan meet contracts and machinery and labor capacity? If not: swap crops between fields and redraft. Back to step 4.
- Does every field still pass rotation and disease rules after swaps? If not: undo the swap and pick the next best crop. Back to step 3.
- Summarize margins and input needs

- Season field plan
How it decides

- Disease rules override margin
- Contracts must be met
- Machinery capacity limits planting windows
