AI agent for customs brokers
Customs Bond Sufficiency Agent
Make sure each client's bond covers its duties and does not lapse.
What it does
A continuous bond is sized at the start of the year, and then the client's imports double and entries get held because the bond is not enough. The agent totals the expected duties, taxes and fees from the open entries and from the client's forecast shipments for the coming year. It compares the total with each bond's amount, expiry and any special requirements. It flags shortfalls and bonds expiring soon, and for each it recalculates as new entries and tariff changes accumulate. It drafts a request to the client to increase the bond or renew it, explaining the numbers. After the broker approves it, the request goes to the client. It then tracks the response and rechecks the bond amount after the surety confirms. Edge case: a client with an unusual seasonal peak. The broker approves.
How it works
Follow the arrows from top to bottom. The orange dashed arrow is the loop: when a check fails, the agent goes back and tries again.
Read the steps as a list
- Monthly bond review
- Read bond records and expiry dates
- Total duties and fees from the last 12 months and open entries
- Add the client's forecast shipments at current duty rates
- Compare the total with each bond and flag shortfalls
- Do new entries or rate changes alter the total? If not: recalculate with the latest data. Back to step 3.
- Draft the request to the client with the numbers
- Broker approves the requestThe agent waits here for your OK.
- Send the request and track the reply
- Has the surety confirmed the new amount? If not: remind the client and tell the broker if entries are at risk. Back to step 8.
- Bond record updated
How it decides
A bond is short when the expected 12-month duty exceeds the bond minimum or rises above the set share of the amount. A bond within 60 days of expiry is flagged.
- Flag a bond when the 12-month duty exceeds 10 percent of the amount
- Flag any bond expiring in 60 days
- Use the latest duty rates
- Rerun when a single entry exceeds 20 percent of the bond
