AI agent for customs brokers
Post-Summary Correction Agent
Find post-entry errors early and file accurate corrections within the allowed window.
What it does
A broker notices three weeks later that an entry used a wrong tariff number or understated the value, and the window to correct it without a penalty is closing. The agent compares filed entries with later invoices, payment records and classification reviews, and lists differences in value, quantity, tariff number and origin. For each difference, it calculates the duty impact, up or down, and the deadline for correction. It drafts a correction with the supporting documents. If the recalculated duty does not tie to the payment record, it re-reads the source documents before drafting. The broker approves filing. After filing, it checks the correction was accepted and any refund or payment was received. Edge case: a difference that comes from a currency conversion date. The agent checks the rate source.
How it works
Follow the arrows from top to bottom. The orange dashed arrow is the loop: when a check fails, the agent goes back and tries again.
Read the steps as a list
- Weekly review starts
- Read recent entries and the matching invoices and payments
- Compare value, quantity, tariff number and origin
- Calculate the duty impact and the correction deadline
- Does the recalculated duty tie to the payment record? If not: re-read the source documents and the rate sources, then recalculate. Back to step 2.
- Draft the correction with supporting documents
- Broker approves filingThe agent waits here for your OK.
- File the correction through the filing system
- Check the acceptance and the refund or bill
- Was the correction accepted and the payment or refund settled? If not: fix the rejection reason and prepare a new draft. Back to step 6.
- Case closed in the log
How it decides
A discrepancy is real when the source document differs from the entry on a duty-bearing field. The correction is drafted only when the recalculated duty ties to the payment record.
- Treat differences in value, tariff number, origin and quantity as duty-bearing
- Prioritize corrections with a deadline under 30 days
- Check the exchange rate source for value differences
- Do not draft until the duty ties to the payment record
