AI agent for insurance risk analysts

Emerging Risk Scan Agent

A short ranked watch list of emerging risks with checked exposure, reviewed weekly

Emerging Risk Scan Agent: what goes in, what the agent does and what you get

What it does

Insurers often learn of a new risk, such as a new battery technology or a court ruling that widens liability, only when claims land. This agent scans regulatory notices, court decisions, industry reports and news by theme each week. It scores each item for relevance to the insurer's portfolio, then checks the company's actual exposure, such as policies, limits and lines that could be hit. Items with real exposure become a watch item with a short description, an estimate of the range of exposure and the next signal to watch. If the scan returns too much noise or misses known events, it refines its keywords and searches again. The risk lead decides which items to escalate to underwriting or the committee. Edge case: a ruling in a state with no policies written is logged as low priority.

How it works

Follow the arrows from top to bottom. The orange dashed arrow is the loop: when a check fails, the agent goes back and tries again.

How it decides

It ranks items by how directly they touch lines and states the insurer writes and by the size of limits exposed, and it drops items with no matching exposure.

  • Shortlist items scoring 7 or higher out of 10 for relevance
  • Require at least one written policy line or state in the exposure
  • Mark an item rising when two new sources report it within a week
  • Keep known test events in the scan to confirm coverage

What keeps you in control

It always asks you first

  • Escalating any item to underwriting or the committee

Hard limits

An example run

What happensOn a Monday the scan returned 46 items. After refining keywords the agent kept 11. It checked exposure and found a new state ruling on contractor liability affecting 380 policies with $19 million in limits. That item entered the watch list as rising. Two others had no policies and were low priority. The risk lead escalated the contractor item to underwriting.
